Sunset Boulevard, 1950
With an impressive 11 Oscar Nominations, Sunset Boulevard is another classic masterpiece from the brilliant mind of Billy Wilder. The film revolves around Gloria Swanson’s mesmerizing portrayal of Norma Desmond, a fading movie star who pins her hopes of a comeback on the struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis, played by William Holden.

Desmond, trapped in a world of delusion, extends an invitation to Gillis for a New Year’s Eve gathering, though it turns out to be far from the typical festive affair. The film’s climax takes a dark turn, with Desmond tragically ending Gillis’s life.
