#15: Putting the Tortilla in Tortilla Chips
A tortilla chip is such a different thing from a tortilla that it’s not that surprising that people might not connect the two. Plus, I am 100% sure that most mass-produced tortilla chips today spend little or no time in their life cycle even resembling a tortilla.

But it is in fact true that at its root, a tortilla chip is a tortilla that has been chopped up and thrown into the fryer. They were developed in the 1940s when a delicatessen/tortilla factory in California needed a way to use up their reject tortillas. And the world has been forever blessed by that discovery. Man, now I really want some chips and salsa.
