In 1918, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Guardian Frigerator Company was born, founded by Nathaniel B. Wales and Alfred Mellowes. Struggling for finances, it was William C. Durant of General Motors who provided crucial support.

Frigidaire’s journey, initially hampered by financial constraints, was propelled by William C. Durant’s investment. By 1979, ownership transitioned to the White Sewing Machine Company, and then to Electrolux in 1986, maintaining its status as a subsidiary since.
